How Does MoEngage Calculate Monthly Tracked Users?
MoEngage calculates MTUs using the App/Site Opened event based on the total sum of mobile MTUs and web MTUs from the previous month.
Mobile MTUs: These are calculated based on the number of users who open the app on an Android or iOS device at least once a month.
Web MTUs: These are calculated based on the number of users who open the website on the web platform at least once a month.

Information Users' activity is counted twice if they use both mobile and web devices. The activities can be 1 or 1000. |
Fair Usage Policy (FUP)
You can determine this by setting a monthly limit on the number of events each account generates. This limit is calculated by multiplying the MTUs by the authorized number of events for each user per month. If an account exceeds this limit, MoEngage recalculates the MTUs by dividing the total number of events by the approved number for each user per month.
For example, if your contract grants you an FUP of 100, and during the month, your account records a total of 12,000 events during the month, MoEngage will recalculate the billable MTUs based on the actual number of events: Billable MTUs = 12000/100 = 120. This adjustment ensures that the account remains within the authorized limit and continues to receive the agreed-upon service level.
Answer: A billing cycle is the interval of time between two consecutive billing statements. This represents the timeframe during which MoEngage bills you for your usage of MoEngage services on a recurring basis. The length of a billing cycle can vary depending on your subscription and contract. Contact your admin or dedicated customer success manager (CSM) to know your billing cycle.
Answer: The Key Metrics Monthly Active Users (MAU) shows the MAU count based on the last 30 days. In contrast, Billing MTUs are calculated based on the actual number of days in the month, varying between 28, 29, 30, or 31, depending on the calendar month or leap year.
Answer: The MTU data provided by MoEngage for the billing may not match the segmentation data because:
MoEngage calculates the billing for every account on the first day of every month. When a user merge occurs after the billing calculation, re-running the query on segmentation may show a decrease in the user count. Sometimes, events received by the MoEngage server may not be processed immediately. When such instances occur after the billing calculation, re-running the query on segmentation may show an increase in the user count.
