Add file attachments

Note - This feature is currently in closed beta and is available on request

Introduction

This feature enables you to attach one or more files as part of the message in the email campaigns. 

Example use cases

  1. Banks/Fin-tech brands send periodic account statements to their customer base
  2. Travel and hospitality brands need to send receipts/tickets whenever a customer completes a purchase transaction

How to add attachments

Enable More Options on the 'Compose Email' page and click on 'Attachments' tab

There are three ways you can add attachments in email campaigns

Option 1 - Add attachment file from your local drive 

Step 1 - Click on the Local File option

Step 2 - Add the file from your local drive using either the Browse option or Drag & Drop option

Option 2 - Add attachment file from a URL

Step 1 - Click on the URL option

Step 2 - Add the URL which containing the complete file path along with the extension

Step 3 - Click on Attach button

Option 3 - Add attachment file using a personalised URL attribute

Step 1 - Click on the 'Personalized attachment' option

Step 2 - Use '@' and click on the 'Click to personalize' button to invoke the personalization menu

Step 3 - Select the personalised URL attribute pointing to the file location and choose the corresponding fallback option

Step 4 - Click on Attach button

Limitations

  1. Email size restrictions (MoEngage - Sendgrid)
    • You can attach upto 10 files in a single email campaign
    • Individual file size limit is 6 mb
    • Total email size (including the attachments and email content) - 20mb 
  2. Email size restrictions (Other email delivery providers)
    • You can attach upto 10 files in a single email campaign
    • Individual file size limit is 6 mb
    • Total email size including the file attachment varies from provider to provider (We recommend having a maximum file attachment size of 75% of the available email limit). Below are file size limits for popular email providers
      • Amazon SES - 10 mb (more details can be found here)
      • Mandrill - 25 mb (more details can be found here) 
      • Sparkpost - 20 mb (more details can be found here)
      • For others, please check with the respective support teams/documentation 
  3. For attachments via URL/personalised URL
    • The file in the URL need to have a valid file extension
    • The file link should be in a publicly accessible location

FAQs

Can I track if my recipient opened the attached file?

No, the tracking will only be with respect to the campaign. We will not be able to track whether the attachment file got downloaded/opened

What happens if my attachments exceed the maximum file size limit specified by my email delivery provider?

This will lead to a hard bounce and the email will not be delivered

What happens if the URL for file attachment was faulty or incorrect?

The email campaign will not be delivered and this will be reported as 'Attachment failures' in the campaign analytics page

What happens if the attachment files are missing in the URL I provided? 

The email campaign will not be delivered and this will be reported as 'Attachment failures' in the campaign analytics page
