Understanding Geo Fencing Push Campaigns

Before you begin understanding how to create Geo-Fence Campaigns, we recommend reading how to create a general push campaign.

Location of a user can also help in sending targeted campaigns to engage the user with relevant content. For ex. for a user who has just arrived at Bengaluru Airport/Train Station, it is important to engage the user with your hotel or taxi booking app for Bengaluru city.

Geo Fence Push campaigns are triggered for all users when they enter/exit/stay in a pre-defined perimeter around a location (for ex. the airport). Currently, Geo Fencing campaigns are available for android and iOS platforms. And, all users satisfying the criteria of geo-fence will receive the campaign.

In this article we cover on how to:

- Add a geo fence to the campaign

- Set campaign message

- Schedule the campaign with campaign goals

Navigate to Campaigns->Create Campaign and click on Create button in Geo-fencing Campaign under Push Campaign tab.

The following steps describe how to create geo fence push campaigns:

Step 1: Naming the campaign and adding a geo-fence

Enter a name for the campaign and select platform.

Click on ADD GEOFENCE button.

Under Message tab, enter the name of the Geo Fence and compose the push message to be sent. Select from the drop-down whether to trigger the push message on entry/exit/stay inside the geo-fence.

Currently we allow marketers to choose among three trigger options:

- Trigger when user enters the Geo Fence - Message will be triggered when user enter the define perimeter

- Trigger when user exits the Geo Fence - Message will be triggered when user exits the define perimeter

- Trigger when user stays in Geo Fence for X mins - Message will be triggered when user enters and stays inside defined perimeter for X mins . Please note that this type of trigger is supported only for Android. If your customers receive a large number of alerts when driving briefly past your geofences, dwell based fences are very effective to reduce this spam.

To add Geo Fence center, under Location Tab, search the location for setting up the geo-fence. The Latitude/Longitude will get auto-populated once the location is selected. Enter an appropriate radius parameter for the geo-fence to be triggered.

For the example below, a geofence of 7 km is set around Foley Sq in New York. It will be triggered basis trigger choice. Screen_Shot_2017-05-19_at_12.21.26_PM.png

Click "Add Geo-fence" button to add this geo-fence. You can add multiple geo-fences with separate message and location for each. Remove a geo-fence by clicking on "x" sign in the geo-fence list.

Click Next button to move to "Messaging" tab.

Step 2: Define the Messaging of the campaign

The messaging of geo-fence campaigns are similar to general push campaigns with multiple message template types (general, coupon, image or rich landing page) and action on notification click. Read about messaging in general push campaign here.

Step 3: Scheduling & Goals of the campaign

Geo-fence campaigns are started as soon as the campaign is created and are triggered when a user satisfies the location/radius criteria.

The campaign frequency can be limited by setting an upper cap on no. of times to show the message in a defined time interval.

Geo-fence campaign have an option to include a time bound for the notification. If "Limited Period" radio button is selected, the user will get notification only between specified time intervals with respect to a time-zone. Multiple time bounds can be entered here (for ex. cover both evening and morning times). Selecting "Always" button will not time bound the campaign.

After deciding on the scheduling, you can set the campaign conversion goal to understand the conversion activity tracked from running the campaign. Through this, you can tie the success of the campaign to conversion activities such as Item Purchased. You can also associate an attribute such as "Revenue" with the conversion goal

Your campaign is now ready to be sent. Click on Create button, confirm in the dialog box and your campaign is created. Upon successful campaign creation, you will be taken to the campaign info page where you can view the campaign performance stats such as impressions, clicks, conversions and other details mentioned in this article

Next, you can understand how to include smart triggers in push/in-app campaigns
